Icy road conditions were a factor in a fatal car crash Saturday morning that claimed the life of a 50-year-old Joliet woman, authorities said.

The chain-reaction crash took place about 10:30 a.m. along Interstate 55 West Frontage Road, between Oak Tree Lane and Benet Lane, near Joliet, according to an Illinois State Police District 5 release.

A 29-year-old Plainfield man driving on Frontage Road lost control of his Chevrolet Cruze after braking suddenly for another vehicle exiting the nearby Van Horn Woods of the Plainfield Park District, police said.

The Chevrolet slid on the icy road into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with the Joliet woman's Saturn, police said.

The Joliet woman, identified by police as Deborah L. Huffer, was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured and refused medical treatment on the scene, according to Illinois State Police Trooper DeAnn Falat.

Police charged the third driver, Bartley Perry, 53, of Joliet, with failure to yield.
