Doctor handed 13 years for sexually assaulting woman during exam

A west suburban doctor was sentenced to 13 years in prison today for sexually assaulting a patient in 2005 during an examination in his Berwyn office.

Ricardo Arze, 59, of Berwyn, a family practice physician, was convicted by a jury in May 2012 for the criminal sexual assault of a 48-year-old patient at his office on the 6900 block of West Cermak Road, according to a release from the Cook County state's attorney's office.

The victim came to Arze's office on March 24, 2005 for a follow-up visit to return to work after being ill. Arze told the victim he was going to examine her, but when she lay back on the table so he could examine her lungs he sexually assaulted her, prosecutors said.

The victim reported the assault in 2007 after Arze was arrested and charged in three other pending cases, prosecutors said.

Arze was sentenced to today to 13 years in prison.
