Cops seek help after girl, 16, sexually assaulted in Austin

A 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted as she walked in the Austin neighborhood Friday evening and police were asking for the public's help to apprehend the attacker, police said.

The attack happened at 10 p.m. as the girl was walking on North Menard Avenue between Washington and Madison streets, police said.

As the girl was walking a man began following her and began calling out to her. After the girl ignored his verbal advances, he grabbed her from behind, pushed her against a wall in a vacant lot and then sexually assaulted her, police said.

After the attack, the man fled on foot.

He is described as a black male between 5-feet-7 inches and 5-feet-9-inches tall. He weighs between 155 and 175 pounds and has a deep voice, police said.
