A 33-year-old Orland Hills man faces drunken driving and reckless homicide charges following a crash Sunday that killed a Tinley Park woman, police said.
Kevin D. Santiago, of the 8800 block of West 170th Street, on Tuesday appeared at the Cook County Courthouse in Bridgeview, charged with reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence, driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, disobeying a traffic signal, and driving without insurance. Bond was set at $300,000.
Santiago was taken into custody Sunday, after he struck a car driven by 50-year-old Lubna Firdausi around 2 a.m. at the intersection of 183rd Street and 80th Avenue in Tinley Park.
Firdausi died six hours later at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. Details of the crash were not available, police spokesman Cmdr. Pat McCain said Tuesday.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at a mosque in Frankfort, said her stepson, Haroon Firdausi. She will be buried in her native Pakistan.
Ms. Firdausi was the mother of two adult children, a son who is a U.S. Marine and a daughter who recently began college. She also is survived by her husband, Mohammad Firdausi, and four stepchildren.
Ms. Firdausi was driving home after an evening out with friends when the crash occurred, her stepson said.
