ComEd spokeswoman Liz Keating said as of 2:40 p.m. 90% of the 600 customers who initially lost power at 1:52 p.m. has been restored.
Keating said the problems began at 1:52 p.m. when the building housing Chicago Police headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan Ave., as well as a few others including the Edward Beasley Elementary School, 5255 S State St., the 51st Street shopping center, and Jernberg Forge manufacturing, 328 W 40th Pl., all lost power.
Despite having loss of their computers, the situation was “tolerable’’ and their lights were operating, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala at 2:45 p.m.
Despite temperatures in the 90s, Keating said overall the system is holding up “pretty well’’ and this outage was the only significant one today.
Keating said power is expected to be fully restored within the next few hours.
“Hopefully we’ll get it back on soon,’’ Keating said, adding that the cause is under investigation.
