Some Comcast high-speed internet customers in Chicago experienced outages this afternoon, a spokeswoman for the company said.

The outages started at about 2 p.m. and affected 0.3 percent of customers in the greater Chicago area, said Angie Amores, the spokeswoman.

She declined to discuss specific numbers of customers affected, but said service was disrupted in a "small portion" of the city in the West Loop area.

She said the outages occurred when an air-conditioning unit had to be replaced at a hub. By about 5 p.m., 98 percent of the outages had been resolved, Amores said.

The disruption in service caused a minor uproar on Twitter as some affected customers compared notes.
