A cabdriver died after being involved in an accident this morning in the Bucktown neighborhood on Chicago's North Side, possibly after suffering a heart attack, authorities said.

According to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli, the cab, a 2007 Mercury Marquis, was westbound about 7:14 a.m. in the 1800 block of West Armitage Avenue when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, struck a parked car, and then hit a fence of a building in the 1900 block of North Honore Avenue.

The driver, age 57, was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead at the hospital, Mirabelli said. It was believed he died of a heart attack, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Mirabelli said the driver may have had a medical condition that contributed to the accident, but said there would be no official cause of death until autopsy results are in.
