Chemical spill

One person was injured in a small chemical spill in a Brighton Park neighborhood factory this afternoon.

A hazardous materials crew was responding to the spill in the factory in the 4800 block of South St. Louis Avenue about 1 p.m., said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight.

One personw as taken in fair-to-serious condition to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment, according to the Fire Department's news office. The spill resulted from a "Small overpour" of sodium hypochlorite, the chemical compound that is the primary ingredient in liquid bleach.

The building houses Kocour Co., which provides services to the metal finishing industry, according to the company's website.

The hazardous materials situation was secured about 1:30 p.m.
