Heading into her final season at Sandburg, swimmer Caitlin Krull already holds multiple school records.
Name: Caitlin Krull
Age/year in school (incoming): Senior
Hometown: Orland Park
How long have you participated in swimming?
Competitively, around 12 years, but my parents had me in swim lessons before that.
What do you love most about swimming?
If you are having a bad day you almost always have a good day in swimming.
What are your goals for the upcoming season? How will you achieve them?
To place at state in an individual event and have my team win sectionals. I will achieve [these] by working hard and never giving up even when the practices seem impossible.
How do you motivate yourself to train during the summer?
If you want to be great you have to make sacrifices. I always remind myself of my goals and that always makes me want to train harder and harder.
Who has inspired you most in your athletic endeavors?
If you didn’t swim, what would you be doing?
I would probably be a runner.
What’s the best part about summer in Orland Park?
There is always something to do; whether it is going to the movies, out to lunch or just hanging out you will always be able to find something.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Amanda Beard [seven-time Olympic medalist] because she was an amazing swimmer and she overcame a lot throughout her swimming years, such as drug abuse and bulimia. She swam at the highest level with these problems while most people would have just given up and walked away from the sport.
How do you beat the heat during workouts?
I bring some cold water to drink during practices.
