At around 6:30 p.m. a vehicle traveling westbound on Rollins Road approaching Lotus Drive struck an adolescent boy riding his bicycle southbound on Lotus, said Deputy Police Chief Richard Chiarello.
He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by the fire department, police and fire officials said.
“It was significant injuries,” said Chiarello. “We’re treating it as a severe accident.”
The boy was born in 1999, but police could offer no other biographical details at this time.
The driver remained and the scene and was cooperating in the investigation, and there was no indication that speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said.
The Major Crash Assistance Team in Lake County is helping with the ongoing investigation, police said.
