A Mexican citizen wanted on a Cook County warrant for a sexual assault charge has been arrested when he tried to enter the United States in Laredo, Texas, officials said today.
Gerardo Castro, 43, was arrested Tuesday after he was questioned when he tried to go through the Laredo port of entry and officials found an active Cook County warrant on a predatory criminal sexual assault charge, according to a release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency.
Summit, according to the Cook County sheriff's website. Additional details of the charges were not listed. The warrant contains no bail.
Castro was turned over to Webb County sheriff's deputies and was being held in the local jail pending extradition procedures, according to the CBP release.
