The Big Ten’s new divisions should become official Sunday, with conference presidents and chancellors scheduled to approve them via conference call.

Purdue President Mitch Daniels told the Journal & Courier that the school will vote in favor of placing the Boilermakers in the West.

The only slight sticking point in ditching Legends and Leaders for East and West was what to do with Purdue and Indiana. Purdue will go west with Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin. Indiana will join Eastern schools Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers in 2014.

As Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips said last week: “Now that we’re spread (out), I think geography makes sense for everybody.”
