State Sen. Dan Duffy, R-Lake Barrington, had a lame excuse as to why you did not cast a vote on Senate Bill 1 (Letter, June 23). Do you want to represent the citizens of Illinois or attend family events albeit the events might be very important to you personally?
You may not have known the exact time SB1 was going to be called, but the fact that it would be called shortly was eminent. Clearly your misguided sense of responsibility is part of today's problems. You were not appointed to become a state senator, you volunteered to become a state senator. Unless the family happening is your funeral, I suggest representing your constituents.
Do the job you asked for and are being paid for or get out of the way. Your comment, "Either way, I would not have missed my daughter's high school graduation," leaves little doubt as to what you feel takes priority. If we can't count on you to do your job, we don't need you.
