A Richton Park man was killed early this morning when he rear-ended another vehicle on the Dan Ryan Expressway, authorities said.
The collision occurred at about 12:10 a.m. in the southbound local lanes near the 63rd Street exit, according to Illinois state police.
Killed was Larry E. Lewis, 34, of 22447 Tyle Drive in the far south suburb, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Police said Lewis was changing lanes from the far left lane at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended another car in the third lane, driving it into a guard rail. Lewis' car, a 2002 Chevy Cavalier, also hit the guard rail. He wasn't wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the 2004 Mercury Sable that Lewis hit wasn't injured, police said.
Lewis was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m.
The collision led to a shutdown of two right lanes for more than four hours so that state police could reconstruct the crash. The lanes reopened shortly after 4:40 a.m.
