A day after suffering a crushing defeat to the Ducks in a key Western Conference postseason battle, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville delivered a little good news about his team.
Quenneville said following Sunday's practice at the United Center that leading goal-scorer Patrick Sharp is making "rapid progress" in his recovery from a left knee injury suffered last Sunday in Glendale, Ariz.
Sharp was injured when he collided with the Coyotes' Rostislav Klesla on March 20 and has missed the Hawks' last two games. The team is hopeful the 34-goal scorer can return in one of the final eight regular season games.
One-timers: Center Jake Dowell has "somewhere around 40" stitches above his left eye after his face hit the ice during the Hawks' 2-1 loss to Anaheim on Saturday night. "I just got tied up and kind of bear-hugged (by the Ducks' Jarkko Ruutu) in the corner and my hands got tied up so I couldnt catch my fall and my face just hit the ice. It was a pressure cut and it just split open." ... Corey Crawford will make his 20th consecutive start in goal for the Hawks when they face the Red Wings on Monday night.
