Layoffs at Motorola Mobility to begin Oct. 23

Layoffs at the Motorola Mobility facility in Plantation are expected to begin Oct. 23, according to a notice filed with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. About 198 employees will be laid off from the campus at 8000 W. Sunrise Blvd. Lenovo, which owns Motorola Mobility, said this week that it plans to lay off 3,200 people worldwide from its non-manufacturing operations. The move is expected to help cut expenses by about $650 million in the second half of this year and about $1.35 billion annually, Lenovo said.
