Illinois' economic development could get boost from CEOs, private nonprofit

The Illinois General Assembly needs to pass a strengthened version of a pending bill that would privatize some of the state's economic development functions. By creating a private nonprofit to promote job creation statewide, Illinois hopefully will gain flexibility, expertise and some well-informed promoters as its 16-member board travels globally. Note: Those excursions better happen on their own frequent-flier miles or from privately raised funds. Speaking of which, private fundraising is going to be one benefit of this legislation. If rich people want to support a job creation program, so be it. And if they want to spend their time helping the state, so be it. It's better...
