WYCC drops PBS, weighs channel-sharing deal with WTTW

After 34 years as Chicago’s “other” public television station, WYCC-Ch. 20 is down to its final weeks to strike a channel-sharing agreement with rival WTTW-Ch. 11 or go off the air.

Some would argue it’s already gone.

Last week, WYCC dropped its PBS affiliation, scrapped its full slate of programming and replaced it with MHz Worldview, a Virginia-based public TV network featuring international dramas and newscasts.

The station is also running a 30-day notice to viewers that it plans to go off the air Nov. 27. The message appears as a crawl at the bottom of the screen, often obscured by subtitles.
