ESPN President John Skipper Resigns, Citing Substance Addiction

ESPN President John Skipper, citing substance addiction, resigned Monday after nearly six years at the helm.

"I have struggled for many years with a substance addiction,” Skipper said in a statement posted on the Bristol sports network’s website. “I have decided that the most important thing I can do right now is to take care of my problem.”

Skipper, who also is stepping down as co-chairman of the Disney Media Networks, said he and ESPN “mutually agreed that it was appropriate” that he resign.

He provided no other details.

"I come to this public disclosure with embarrassment, trepidation and a feeling of having let others I care about down,” he said....
