Tribune Media posts revenue gain but falls short of expectations

The National League Championship Series showdown between the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs was the culmination of successful seasons on the field and a win-win for Tribune Media during a profitable third quarter that fell short of analysts' expectations.

The Chicago-based company saw regular-season ratings for the Cubs games on WGN-Ch. 9 up 100 percent over last season, while the Mets scored a 55 percent increase on WPIX-TV. That helped keep TV ad revenue essentially flat for the quarter in an off-cycle election year.
