New Britain Tax Base Grows Almost 6 Percent

The city’s tax base grew by more than 6 percent in the past year, a development that could bring in millions of dollars in new revenue without a tax increase.

Much of the increase was the result of a revaluation of property in town, which drove up assessments across the city, particularly on mid-sized and large apartment buildings.

But even without that, New Britain recorded enough new business development and residential growth to account for at least 1 percent of the increase, city officials said.
