Crofton man pleads guilty to government document theft

A Crofton man who in the 1980s was convicted of espionage pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to stealing government documents. Samuel Loring Morison, 70, was given two years of probation for the theft of historical records related to his grandfather, Rear Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison, an historian who documented naval operations during World War II. The records were among more than 34 boxes of material, including maps, charts, negatives, illustrations, photographs and textual materials, that Morison was accused of stealing from Naval History and Heritage Command in Washington, D.C.
