The United Club under construction in O'Hare International Airport's Terminal 1 was originally built in the 1980s and looked the part, with wood finishes, a black-tile bathroom, and a limited selection of both snacks and electrical outlets.

But as airlines bifurcate their business between bargain hunters and frequently traveling road warriors, they're taking a second look at the extra niceties offered to the top customers that airlines want to keep loyal, on the ground as well as in the air.
