Underwriters Labs tries to protect trademark in age of 3-D printing

So far this year, Northbrook-based Underwriters Laboratories has issued four public notices against manufacturers that it says have counterfeited its "UL" label. UL certifies the safety of more than 100 items in the average home. Check your blow dryer. You'll find its stamp or sticker there. But the stickers on those three cables sold online? UL says they're fakes. Or the pricey, Italian-made fire sprinkler system valves, known to be distributed in Medellin, Colombia? The valves themselves and the UL stamp of approval, both fakes.
