In their 10th state tournament and fifth title game appearance, the No. 10 Pointers (14-3) finally broke through with the program's first Class 1A state championship in a dramatic 2-1 win over Smithsburg.
Replacing seven starters from last season's team and moving a couple key players to new positions, Brennan was able to maximize the lineup's full potential to bring home the coveted title.
The Pointers showed resiliency and their strong bond in the title game, scoring two goals in the final seven minutes to come back from a 1-0 deficit.
Brennan expected it.
"I knew our girls were going to fight tooth and nail no matter what," she said after the game. "And they proved to the very end that they weren't going to give up."
The team established a never-quit attitude in the regular season. Playing against bigger schools in Baltimore County, Sparrows Point more than held their own to reach the county championship game, eventually falling to Class 4A state runner-up Catonsville, 2-1.
On the way to the county title game, the Pointers defeated Baltimore County powers Loch Raven, Eastern Tech, Perry Hall and Dulaney.
Brennan, in her fifth and final season as coach, finished her career with a 52-24 mark. She's stepping down due to her growing family — she's expecting her second child in March.
