Baseball: The poll
1. Westminster

Coach: Mark Winebrunner

Last season: 23-0, ranked No. 1

Postseason: Class 4A state champion

Outlook: Coming off conference, region and state titles, the Owls have a new coach. But a strong defense and six starting pitchers, led by Chad Diehl (7-0, 3.65 ERA), create expectations for a repeat.

2. Archbishop Spalding

Coach: Jeff Palumbo

Last season: 28-5, No. 2

Postseason: MIAA A Conference champion

Outlook: With four preseason All-State seniors — pitcher Austin Clark (committed to La Salle), outfielder Jamal Clarke (.450 batting average), first baseman Nick Freeberger (.880 slugging percentage) and shortstop Sean Miller (.455 batting) — the Cavaliers are fearsome.

3. Calvert Hall

Coach: Lou Eckerl

Last season: 28-9, No. 3

Postseason: MIAA A Conference runner-up

Outlook: The Cardinals' core field players and complete pitching staff return. Led by their top hitter, junior catcher Alex Murphy (.417), and No. 1 pitcher senior Garrett Walther (6-2, 4.88 ERA), they are loaded and will test themselves with a tough schedule.

4. Severna Park

Coach: Bob Felts

Last season: 20-6, No. 4

Postseason: Class 4A state runner-up
