Gilman junior Joe Smeton drove in three runs on two hits and pitched a solid 51/3innings to lead the No. 5 Greyhounds to a 9-4 victory over No. 1 Calvert Hall in a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference baseball game Tuesday.
Smeton gave up two earned runs on seven hits to improve his record to 3-0. He walked two and struck out two. Gilman (13-4 overall, 6-1 league) took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with three runs as Smeton had a two-run single to make it 5-2.
The host Greyhounds buried the Cardinals (9-5, 5-1) in the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits. Calvert Hall senior catcher Alex Murphy hit a pair of two-run homers.

No. 4 Century 19, Walkersville 4: Hannah Warther had a career-high seven goals to lead host Century (6-1) over the Lions.
No. 5 Maryvale 12, Garrison Forest 6: Miranda Ibello had a hat trick for the host Lions (6-1).
No. 6 Mount Hebron 23, Long Reach 5: Chachi Kelehand had five points (four goals, one assist) and the host Vikings (5-1) held the Lightning to one goal in the second half.
No. 8 Severn 16, No. 15 Archbishop Spalding 11: Annie Igler (five goals) and Caroline Steele (four goals) powered the visiting Admirals (6-3-1) past the Cavaliers (5-4).
