JC Clayton hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to score the only run of the game as host John Carroll upset No. 3 Archbishop Spalding (3-5), 1-0, in a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference baseball game Friday.

Spalding's Joey Venitez pitched a no-hitter in a losing effort.

This is the second time this week the Cavaliers have lost to an unranked opponent.

No. 4 Severna Park 10, Annapolis 2: Johnny Mayer went 3-for-4 and scored three runs as the Falcons improved their record to 5-0 with a win over the host Panthers in Anne Arundel league play Friday. Brad Keith also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jake Siefert had a double and a home run.

No. 7 Northeast 5, Chesapeake-AA 1: Brandon O'Malley scattered five hits as the visiting Eagles (4-1) beat the Cougars. O'Malley allowed his first run after 15 consecutive scoreless innings and improved to 3-0.

No. 10 Patterson Mill 9, Fallston 0: Winner Blaine Sheesley struck out five and Matt Golczewski went 3-for-5 with an RBI as the visiting Huskies (4-0) shut out the Cougars.

Patterson Mill scored two runs in the second inning to take the lead for good.

No. 12 South River 2, Broadneck 0: Charlie Hardesty pitched a complete game, gave up two hits, two walks and struck out five in a 90-minute shutout for the host Seahawks (2-1).

Scott Mitchell went 3-for-3 with singles in the first, third and fifth innings.

No. 15 Reservoir 4, River Hill 1: Cody Morris and Lee Lawler led the Gators to a win over the visiting Hawks in Howard County league action. Each team had three hits and no errors.

Randallstown 15, Milford Mill 0: Right-hander Dyllon Sanchez (2-0) struck out 12 in a five-inning no-hitter for the host Rams (2-1).

Hereford 4, Perry Hall 3: Jay Patti hit a double in the top of the seventh to bring in two runs as the visiting Bulls (5-0) held off the Gators in Baltimore County action.

Left-hander Patrick Wetzelberger pitched a complete game and recorded four strikeouts.


No. 6 C. Milton Wright 7, No. 3 Archbishop Spalding 6: With the game tied at 6 in the eighth inning, MacKenzie Fitzgerald hit an RBI single to drive in the winning run as the host Mustangs (4-1) upset the Cavaliers (3-2).

C. Milton Wright moved Jessica Canami from first to third on a single by Kayleigh Allender.

Spalding had loaded the bases earlier in the inning but failed to score.

Northeast 8, No. 11 Chesapeake-AA 6: The visiting Eagles scored three runs in the top of the seventh to upset the Cougars (2-3).

Brooke Steinbach pitched a complete game, striking out seven in the win.

Hammond 17, Long Reach 0: Samantha Speierman struck out eight in a five-inning shutout for the visiting Bears.
