Alvin Leroy Jordan was born in Baltimore and raised in Sparrows Point, where he graduated in 1955 from Sollers Point High School.
He attended what are now Morgan State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he excelled in football, baseball and track, family members said.
While in college, he was drafted into the Army and served two years in Korea.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching and coaching his children. One day, family members said, three of his children had games at the same time. and he stood in the middle of a field watching two sons play baseball while his daughter played softball.
After retiring, Mr. Jordan was active in his community watch program. He enjoyed traveling.
He was a member of Epworth Chapel United Methodist Church, 3317 St. Luke's Lane, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Mr. Jordan is survived by the former Betty Graves, his high school sweetheart whom he married in 1958; two sons, Brian O'Neil Jordan of Atlanta and Deric Lamont Jordan of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a daughter, Felicia Renee Jordan of Atlanta; two brothers, William B. Jordan of Baltimore and Reginald Jordan of South Carolina; a sister, Cheryl Jordan of Baltimore; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by another son, Kevin Orlando Jordan.
