Flea market, book sale
Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church sponsors this event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 2 at 14051 Burntwoods Road in Glenwood (rain date is June 9). Vendor spaces are free, tables are available for $5 and setup time is 7:30 a.m. Registration is required, and spaces are limited. The church is also asking for books, records, DVDs, CDs and videos for the annual media and book Sept. 13-15. Donations may be placed on a bench near the side door off the parking lot. The Jewish Federation of Howard County presents its annual fundraiser, "Federation Live!" (formerly "The Event") at 6:30 p.m. June 13 at Ten Oaks Ballroom, 5000 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville. The event will honor Jewish community leaders Deborah and Harry Adler. Evening includes a cocktail reception, dinner and silent auction. Proceeds benefit the organization's social service programs for seniors, youth and teen outreach, and community families. Ticket packages range from $70 to $1,000. The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company presents "Romeo and Juliet" and "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, June 8-July 29 at Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, 3691 Sarah's Lane in Ellicott City. The Empowerment Movement sponsors "I AM! An Exhibit of Self-Esteem" performance and reception from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Columbia Association Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth.
