Flea market, book sale

Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church sponsors this event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 2 at 14051 Burntwoods Road in Glenwood (rain date is June 9). Vendor spaces are free, tables are available for $5 and setup time is 7:30 a.m. Registration is required, and spaces are limited. The church is also asking for books, records, DVDs, CDs and videos for the annual media and book Sept. 13-15. Donations may be placed on a bench near the side door off the parking lot. Fundraising gala

The Jewish Federation of Howard County presents its annual fundraiser, "Federation Live!" (formerly "The Event") at 6:30 p.m. June 13 at Ten Oaks Ballroom, 5000 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville. The event will honor Jewish community leaders Deborah and Harry Adler. Evening includes a cocktail reception, dinner and silent auction. Proceeds benefit the organization's social service programs for seniors, youth and teen outreach, and community families. Ticket packages range from $70 to $1,000. The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company presents "Romeo and Juliet" and "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen, June 8-July 29 at Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, 3691 Sarah's Lane in Ellicott City. Teen self-esteem

The Empowerment Movement sponsors "I AM! An Exhibit of Self-Esteem" performance and reception from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Columbia Association Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth. The Columbia Association presents its Lakefront Wednesdays Lunchtime Concert Series featuring local musicians performing rock, folk, jazz, flamenco and reggae.
