Maryland's political MOB (Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Gov. Martin O'Malley and House Speaker Michael E. Busch) are now pushing for more gun control laws on law abiding citizens with the Firearm Safety Act of 2013. Maryland today already has some of the most stringent gun control laws in America. It needs to enforce the current laws, and the courts need to hand out stronger sentences.

The Maryland MOB claims to want to "keep guns out of the hands of criminals." Maybe they should consider the actions of the Justice Department and Attorney General Eric Holder in the Fast and Furious scandal where hundreds, if not thousands, of assault weapons were given to criminals and used against our own border patrols killing one agent. How does that action help the welfare of U.S. citizens?

The action taken at Sandy Hook was done by a deranged individual and not by a law abiding citizen. We don't blame cars for drunk drivers, so why blame guns for violent deranged individuals? Timothy McVeigh didn't use a gun in Oklahoma to kill 168 innocent people, which included 19 children under the age of 6. However, you can still buy fertilizer and racing fuel and rent box trucks, all ingredients of such a horrible crime. Murderers will murder with or without a gun.

Maryland has consistently reduced and ignored funds for mental health services. This is where the MOB needs to focus, not more gun control laws on law abiding citizens.
