As expected, the Maryland General Assembly voted to abolish capital punishment ("Ending executions," March 19). Leftism is the most dynamic and vibrant religion in the West today. In all areas of life, from morals to education, economics and art, it is replacing the traditional American Judeo-Christian value system.
The Leftist ideology says it is elevated, just, compassionate and kind to allow all murderers to retain their most precious possession, their life. Hence, they think they are kind and just to the next group of murdered kindergartners, their families and friends, when the savage murderer sits and has lunch in prison. They think their dogma is "progressive" to the next sadists that destroy the lives of thousands in a mass murder while they sit in prison and watch TV or write their manifestoes brandishing their twisted views.
This is what the Left calls elevated modern thought. The conservative Right calls it degenerate, regressive, highly unjust, uncivilized and unkind. The Left takes its dogma from the editorial pages of The Washington Post, New York Times or Los Angeles Times, the Right from the only commandment in the Bible mentioned in all five key books of the Old Testament — a man who murders shall be killed. This, the conservative argues, elevates us by clearly and powerfully stating life is the ultimate good, the most precious thing on this earth and when you take an innocent life, you pay with your own.

But our friends and family on the Left know what the wisdom of the ages did not know, and they will, as President Barack Obama clearly articulated on the national level, transform us. The two religions are irreconcilable. We live in two different moral universes.
