The Department of Aging and Disabilities has updated a booklet on community support groups. The booklet focuses on groups for caregivers, Alzheimer's disease, bereavement for adults and children, diabetes, brain injury, cancer, stroke, cardiac and pulmonary problems, Parkinson's and bowel and urinary diversions. Brochures on residents' rights in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities and another brochure on the ombudsman program protecting those residents are available from the Department of Aging and Disabilities. The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities has published its 2012-2013 edition of Services for Seniors, Adults with Disabilities and Caregivers. The free directory is printed annually in May (Older Americans Month) and includes information on rental and housing assistance, legal help, county social services benefits and caregiver information. Wellness day A Leg Wellness Day will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16. Sponsored by Maryland Vein Professionals, the event will include a lecture describing vein diseases, free leg screenings and a Q&A session.
Workshop A Maryland Legal Aid Workshop will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17. The workshop will cover the legal resources available for seniors and how to deal with debt and creditors. Registration is required.
'Ask the Undertaker' Ryan Helfenbein, who writes a column for Outlook by the Bay magazine, will give a talk at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 25. Topics include the emotional and financial advantages of planning in advance for funeral and cremation services. He will also talk about the available options and how to make sure that plans are safe and secure for the future.
