Penn State returns Matt McGloin, Rob Bolden and Paul Jones at quarterback. McGloin, a former walk-on, was 125-for-231 for 1,571 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions as a junior. He missed PSU's TicketCity Bowl loss to Houston after sustaining a concussion and suffering a seizure from a locker room fight. Bolden, who will be a junior, went 53-for-135 for two touchdowns and seven interceptions. Jones was a highly touted quarterback recruit who was academically ineligible for the 2011 season.
The Sporting News, meanwhile, reported recently "that the Badgers are pursuing O'Brien." Wisconsin is looking to replace Russell Wilson, who spent one year in Madison after quarterbacking North Carolina State and graduating early. Among the in-house contenders to take over for Wilson are Jon Budmayr, Joe Brennan, Joel Stave and Curt Phillips. Budmayr is out for the spring with an elbow injury, while Phillips is recovering from his third ACL injury on the same knee.
After a redshirt freshman season in which he was named ACC Rookie of the Year, O'Brien struggled as a sophomore, passing for 1,648 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 150-for-266 passing. His departure leaves Maryland with C.J. Brown as its only scholarship quarterback for spring practice.
