FORT MYERS, Fla.—Here are a bunch of Orioles updates courtesy of Buck Showalter’s pre-game media session:
*Jake Arrieta threw a side session Friday and will pitch in a minor league game at Twin Lakes Park on Monday (the big league off day). He’ll go four innings.
*Luis Ayala (allergies) has a side session today and will pitch in the big league game Saturday night versus the New York Yankees.
*Jason Berken (hamstring) played long toss Thursday, throwing 25 pitches off the half-mound and will do it again Saturday but may throw from the regular mound.
*Willie Eyre (groin) pitches in a split-squad game versus Boston in Fort Myers on Saturday.
*Kevin Gregg will pitch in Saturday’s split-squad game in Sarasota.
*Tommy Hunter (back) will pitch four innings (or throw 60 pitches) today in a minor league game in Sarasota. Pitching coach Rick Adair will be monitoring him.
*Jim Johnson (back) will pitch against Boston in Sarasota on Saturday.
*Darren O’Day (groin) will throw from a half-mound today, and so will Alfredo Simon (groin). Simon is scheduled to pitch Sunday night against the Yankees.
*Miguel Socolovich (groin) is considered day-to-day after leaving Thursday’s game.
*Tsuyoshi Wada (elbow) threw a light side today and will pitch one to two innings Sunday in Orlando.
*Nick Markakis (abdomen) is DHing Saturday in Sarasota.
*Nick Johnson (soreness) will play Saturday. Showalter said Johnson was dealing with “general soreness.”
“He has been taking a lot of reps on purpose. Part of his evaluation is if he can stand up to the grind, physically,” Showalter said.
