Catcher Luis Exposito has been designated for assignment, clearing room on the 40-man roster for Snyder. Exposito had been optioned to Norfolk after Monday night's game after not playing in either of the two games since his call-up after Taylor Teagarden's injury.
Also, right-hander Steve Johnson has been activated from the disabled list, where he's been since before the season, and optioned to Norfolk.
Britton had made his 2013 major league debut Monday after going 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA in his first three starts of the year with the Tides.
“They needed another guy, the bullpen has been battered. So unfortunately I threw yesterday so I am the guy to go,” Britton said. “I don’t consider myself a one-and-done guy, a spot guy. I’d like to get an extended look, especially after having 10 days off. I’d like to hopefully get into my five-day routine and show them what I have been doing down there.
"I didn’t feel I presented myself the best that I could. So I didn’t expect for it to be a one-time shot, but I’m just going to keep going down there and throwing well and hopefully get another extended look."
