Friday is National Doughnut Day

National Doughnut Day, celebrated on the first Friday of June, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

That's according to Dunkin' Donuts, which is offering guests a free doughnut of their choice on Friday with the purchase of any beverage. The offer is good at participating stores while supplies last.

To celebrate the season, you might think about trying one of Dunkin' Donuts' new Summer Fruit Donuts - Lemonade and Key Lime.

And, yes, there is a free-doughnut offer at Krispy Kreme stores - a free doughnut with no purchase necessary - but there aren't any Krispy Kreme stores around Baltimore. Just because a place sells Krispy Kreme doughnuts doesn't make it a Krispy Kreme location. The closest Krispy Kreme store is in Rockville.

Or, you could head down to the Four Seasons Baltimore Hotel, where pastry chef Chris Ford is introducing a new "weekend doughnut," a cake doughnut that will be available on Fridays and Saturdays only at Lamill Cafe Baltimore inside the hotel.
