Itsmyluckyday will get another shot at Orb.
The Eddie Plesa Jr.-trained colt will train toward a Preakness run, his connections told Pimlico officials Tuesday. They'd been mulling over whether or not to go to the gate for the 138th running of the second leg of the Triple Crown.
Itsmyluckyday was the favorite in the Florida Derby, which Orb won to become an early Kentucky Derby favorite.
Then, Itsmyluckyday became a popular betting choice to beat Orb in the Derby, partly because he had run well over a sloppy track.
But Itsmyluckeyday appeared to get stuck in traffic at the Derby and, after stalking the leaders, fell back without making a challenge.
"He didn't run his race," jockey Elvis Trujillo said. "He just didn't like the track."
The Preakness field now counts five starters out of the Kentucky Derby field, with Normandy Invasion (fourth), Mylute (fifth) and Vyjack (18) still possible.
There are also two confirmed new shooters in Departing, the Illinois Derby winner, and Titletown Five, D. Wayne Lukas' third entry, and one possibility in Govenor Charlie, a Bob Baffert-trained colt.
Connections for two other horses considered possible for the race, Bellarmine and Fear the Kitten, have opted not to run.
Here are the confirmed starters as of 11:30 Tuesday:
Orb (First at the Kentucky Derby)
Oxbow (Sixth in the Derby)
Will Take Charge (Sixth in the Derby)
Itsmyluckyday (15th in the Derby)
Goldencents (17th in the Derby)
Departing (First in the Illinois Derby)
Titletown Five (Fourth in the Derby Trial)
