Harris Teeter to open first Baltimore store on Wednesday morning
Jim McDermott works in delicaessen in the city's first Harris Teeter. The food store will open Dec. 7 in the McHenry Row development in Locust Point. (Kim Hairston, Baltimore Sun / November 30, 2011)
The two-story, 61,000 square-foot store, located in Locust Point's new McHenry Row development, is a beauty. It's got those cool freezer cases that light up when you walk down the aisle.
The Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter, according to press information, has committed to supporting the Baltimore community. In anticipation of its new store, the company signed multi-year sponsorship packages with both South Baltimore Little League and South Baltimore Youth Soccer League.
That's nice, and it's more than you can say for another grocery chain that recently opened in Baltimore.
A Greene Turtle and a Red Parrot Bistro will be opening soon in McHenry Row.
I can't stop humming Harris Teeter to the tune of "Alan Brady, Alan Brady."
