Iowa and Wisconsin represent the two non-East Division opponents. The league has announced that it will go to a nine-game league schedule beginning in 2016.
The Terps are also scheduled to play James Madison and West Virginia at home early in the season, as well as at South Florida (Sept. 6) and at Temple (Sept. 20).
“It is great to know that we have our schedule for our inaugural season in the Big Ten,” Maryland coach Randy Edsall said in a news release. “This is a very attractive and challenging schedule and is one our coaching staff, student-athletes and fans will look forward to playing in 2014.”
Of the eight Big Ten teams Maryland will face in its inaugural season, two finished in the Top 25 of the Associated Press last season and four played in bowl games. Both Ohio State and Penn State were ineligible.
The Nittany Lions will be in the third year of a four-year NCAA probation when they face Maryland at Beaver Stadium, marking the renewal of a series that ended in 1993 and was dominated (35-1-1) by Penn State. The last meeting, at Byrd Stadium, resulted in a 70-7 loss for the Terps.
Ohio State will make two trips to the Baltimore-Washington area in 2014. The Buckeyes are scheduled to open the season against Navy at M&T Bank Stadium on Aug. 30.
