1. Want To Start A 'Neighbor Brigade' In CT?

Quite awhile ago, I clipped an article out of People Magazine because I was intrigued by one of it's features in the "Heroes Among Us" section. The story profiled the creator of a group called the Neighbor Brigade. When Pam Washek was fighting cancer, she was touched by the friends and neighbors who offered to drive her to treatments, cook a meal for her family or shuttle her kids to sports practice. She took this notion of "neighborly kindness" to a bigger level and started a volunteer organization which now has 3-thousand members who help families through difficult times with simple acts of kindness.

3. Obama beats up the media; media returns favor

If President Obama was the darling of that so-called liberal media, he is certainly its biggest enemy today.
If President Obama was the darling of that so-called liberal media, he is certainly its biggest enemy today. Instead, he’s basically a lame duck pariah who now has the full attention of every broadcast analyst, Internet blogger and newspaper...

5. 'The Hangover Part III' a forgettable finale, critics say

True to its title, "The Hangover Part III" has left many film critics wishing they'd abstained from the R-rated comedy's destructive misadventures.
True to its title, "The Hangover Part III" has left many film critics wishing they'd abstained from the R-rated comedy's destructive misadventures. Those keeping score will recall that the first "Hangover" was an unexpected hit in 2009, while the...

7. Angelina Jolie puts on her bra in the morning just like the rest of us

McClatchy-Tribune News Service
I never liked Angelina Jolie. She's too wide in the mouth, too thin in the waist, too in-your-face with her three adopted-from-around-the-world kids plus three more for whom she likely has a nanny and a chef. I have questioned her humanitarian work,...

13. Baltimore's noble but flawed hiring bill

On the face of it, City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young's local hiring bill sounds eminently reasonable. When Baltimore spends its residents' tax dollars, why shouldn't it do so in a way that supports hiring city residents, particularly considering the high rate of unemployment here? That common-sense appeal, perhaps, explains why the measure got preliminary approval on a unanimous vote Monday night. Indeed, it sounds like such a good idea that one might wonder: Why doesn't every city and county do the same thing?

Reuters
The Sports Xchange MLB Team Report - Boston Red Sox - INSIDE PITCH Turns out, there may be more to David Ortiz' slump than a negative newspaper column. After going 1-for-4 with a three-run homer Tuesday night in the Red Sox' 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay...

17. Michael Robbins on reviewing

No one dreams of being a book reviewer when he grows up. You might dream of writing poems or novels or essays or even, if you are perennially picked last for teams in gym class, literary criticism (“We don't want Robbins, you can have an extra player”; “We don't want him, either!”). These forms have their glamour, even if only the novelist is much prized by the united malls of America. But as Samuel Johnson almost said, “No man but a blockhead ever wrote book reviews, except for money.” I have had the rare fortune to see my poetic aspirations realized and then some (though fame is a fickle food), but poetry don't pay the rent. Not that anyone's getting rich from writing about how unputdownable a thriller is.
