5. Our Picks: Pardi Gras at Acoustic Cafe in Bridgeport

A few weeks ago, Bridgeport folks were all geared up to celebrate Mardi Gras with a giant fundraiser presented by BlackRock Rocks featuring a couple handfuls of local bands and spanning three venues. And then it snowed. A lot. Like, we're talking about historic amounts of snow here. The winter storm of the century. The event was canceled, but it's being made up this Saturday, and since it's no longer the season for Mardi Gras, it's called Pardi Gras. Some acts on the bill include the Primate Fiasco, Like Violet, Fungus Amungus, School of Rock, Nardy Boy, Dan Labich Trio, Darian Cunning, Cosmic Jibaros, Oobleck, Dr. Caterwaul's Cadre of Clairvoyant Claptraps, EKL, Fake Babies, Giorgio Fareira, Ports of Spain, Hot Chaos, Oh, Cassius!, King for a Day, Solistic, Pocket Hotties, Steve Detroy Trio, Graylight Campfire and Symphonic Bodega. So yeah, everyone's going to be there.

11. 'Last Exorcism' wasn't, but let's hope 'Part II' is ★

OK, so it wasn't "The Last Exorcism" after all. Here's "Part II," an 88-minute bore without the nervy, shaky-camera found-footage conceit, without the doubting exorcist's moment of truth, without the chills of demonic possession thrills that the low-budget original film served up.

13. Pari-mutuel challenges: Economy, Seminoles -- and each other

When slot machines began spinning at South Florida pari-mutuels back in 2006, some expected gobs of cash to roll in. And while the casinos are turning over healthy amounts to the state ($143 million in slot taxes last fiscal year), all agree that the industry hasn’t been as robust as expected.

21. Mayo: Will Dania Jai Alai sale go through?

Sun Sentinel Columnist
Pardon my skepticism, but I'll believe this alleged $65.5 million sale of Dania Jai Alai when the deal actually closes. Because we've seen this story before. The same group (a low-profile local consortium named Dania Entertainment) had a deal to buy...
