A new exhibit curated by The Mariners' Museum opens at Jamestown Settlement today, showcasing the iconic log canoes that plied the Chesapeake Bay for centuries before being pushed aside in the early 1900s. Made up of more than 100 artifacts and archival photos from the Mariners', the show traces the once-ubiquitous boat from its Native American origins through its early 20th century heyday as a popular racing craft. A Saturday, Sept. 20 program will celebrate the opening with chantey singers, modern watermen and kids' activities. Through Sept. 8, 2015. $16 adults, $7.50 children 6-12. Route 31 at the Colonial Parkway, James City. 757-253-4838. historyisfun.org.
