OMA's 'Florida Prize': A winning exhibit
With our busy summer of family visiting their favorite uncles, I almost missed "Florida Prize in Contemporary Art" at the Orlando Museum of Art. The invitational exhibition featured 10 of the most progressive and original artists working in the state today. This was one of the best contemporary art shows I've ever seen anywhere. Incredible works, finely tuned curation and it inhabited the space perfectly. If you missed this inaugural event — it closed Sept. 7 — don't worry; museum folks have promised to stage another Florida Prize next summer. If OMA can maintain this level of quality in future exhibitions, Orlando will become an arts destination on par with much larger cities. Call 407-896-4231 to get your membership to the museum, 2416 N. Mills Ave.

    Lamar Peterson: Suburbia Sublime
WHAT: Lamar Peterson isn't afraid of bright colors, but his surreal paintings present a melancholy rainbow. The Orlando Museum of Art offers a comprehensive look at the work of this St. Petersburg-born artist in "Suburbia Sublime," where themes of...
