Tour #3: Leslie's Awesome Cookies
Toy Soldiers guard the entrance to Christmas Lane in Washington Township on Bill White's holiday light tour on Tuesday night. (DOUGLAS KILPATRICK/Special To the Morning Call)
Return to Steuben and make a right. When you hit 512, turn right, then left on Jacksonville Road. That glow you'll start seeing in the distance is the display at 7475 Arrowhead Road. Take your time to see it all; my judges particularly liked the reindeer in the tree.
Continue to 329/987, make a sharp right and head toward Bath, where you'll jog right to pick up 987 again and head north. You have a long drive here, but you'll be rewarded with displays on each side of the road, which eventually becomes 946/Mountain View. You'll see a terrific display on your right at 3190 Mountain View. When you reach the sign that says "Delps 2," prepare to turn left onto Teel. You'll see Cinderella's Castle glowing above you by this time. From Teel, make your second right onto Wood, park at the turnaround and walk around the Von Blargans' Disney wonderland. See you how many Mickeys your kids can spot, and then have them count the princesses. Aurora has replaced Cinderella and her pumpkin coach in the prime location out front, but you'll find the coach out back -- feel free to go back there -- with some very funny touches. They're collecting for the food bank, so bring some food along for the box.
Back to 946, continuing west. (I tried out a shortcut to this next stop, but it was too complicated.) When you hit 248, turn left. You will pass Becky's Drive-In on your left and begin to go up a hill. On the way up, turn left on Cedar Drive. The display you'll eventually see on your left at 4260 Cedar features synchronized music and lights at 103.3 FM, with shows every 15 minutes. My teenage judge, Adrienne, thought the rendition of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's flashing "Wizards in Winter" was the best thing she saw all night, and she suggested staying for a whole three-song show.
Get turned around, return to 946, turn left and continue into Walnutport. As you cross the bridge, enjoy the Buzzy's display on your left and Slatington's nice decorations. Continue out of town on 873, and as you're heading down the hill, turn right on Friedens Road. Stay on there until you hit the so-aptly-named Christmas Lane on your right, roll your windows down and listen to the music as you cruise under the handmade glowing stars. It seems to snow every year I drive through here, which makes it even more perfect.
Back to 873, turn right and enjoy some nice decorations on your way back to South Whitehall, particularly along Route 309 near Lehigh Carbon Community College. Just past Kernsville Road and before you reach Orefield Middle School, turn right on Sieger Drive. Bear right to see the sprawling display at 2822 Thompson St.
Back to 309, turn right. When you hit Walbert Avenue, turn left and continue to Cedar Crest Boulevard, where you'll turn right. After you pass over Route 22, turn right on Oxford/ Pennsylvania, then bear left on Eton. The display at Eton and 35th gives your tour an elegant finish. Make sure you see all sides.
