St. Paul, Minn.: Joelle Catherine Joynt, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in St. Paul, Minn., on March 9, 2013.
She was born in Zell, the sixth child of Joseph and Eleanor (Weiss) Joynt.
She graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton in 1953. Joelle received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of South Dakota, a master’s degree in music from DePaul University, in Chicago, Ill., and a master’s degree in liturgy from the University of Notre Dame, in Notre Dame, Ind. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton. She was a founding and former member of the Mother of God Monastery of Watertown.
Joelle’s life was devoted to ministry and music. As an educator, her compassion was exemplified by every student she touched. Her career included four years at Roncalli High School in Aberdeen. She was the director of liturgy and music at the Church of Saint Mary's in St. Paul, Minn. She worked at the Ordway Theater in St. Paul, Minn. for 25 years. She traveled abroad and did campus ministry in Scotland. Her passion in life was for the choir and she loved to play bridge. Her gentle soul and grace will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by brothers: Dennis, Joseph and Michael; sister, Belva Harrington; and brother-in-law, Robert Heintzman. Survived by sisters, Donna Heintzman, Mary Shevlin (Larry) & Pat Pearson (Roy) both of Calif.; brother, Jack (Pat) of Kan. A memorial Mass of Christian burial was held March 14 at Church of the Assumption in St. Paul, Minn.
A graveside service will be held Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Aberdeen.
