Sponsored by the Sportsman’s Club of Brown County, the classes will be conducted at the Terry O'Keefe Hunter Education Center at the Brown County Rifle Range, 5.5 miles south of the U.S. highways 12 and 281 intersection.
The classes are from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays. Class openings are still available, and future hunters need to attend all three classes to obtain a HuntSAFE card.
The HuntSAFE course is for youth 12 years of age and older and 11-year-olds who will turn 12 before Jan. 1, 2014. The HuntSAFE course is not necessary, or intended, for 10- or 11-year-olds who plan to participate in the mentor program.
A HuntSAFE card is not a hunting license, but it is required for youth hunters to obtain a valid hunting license in South Dakota. Those younger than 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to present the card to a license agent.
