RAPID CITY - The Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo, produced by Sutton Rodeo, Onida, returns to Rapid City for the 35th year. More than 600 of the world's top PRCA contestants will compete for over $200,000 in prize money.
The star-studded field will feature six 2011 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Champions, 59 2011 WNFR contestants and Badland's Circuit Champions. Returning to Rapid City once again will be 16 time World Champion, 9-time World Champion All-Around Cowboy Trevor Brazile, as well as Bareback Champion Kaycee Fields; Saddle Bronc Champion Taos Muncy; Bull Riding Champion Shane Proctor; Team Roping Heeler Champion Jett Johnson and Calf Roping Champion Tuf Cooper.
South Dakota NFR stars include saddle bronc riders JJ, Ryan and Cole Elshere, Chad Ferley, Jesse Bail, Jeff Willert and Chuck Schmidt; bareback rider Joe Gunderson; Barrel racers Jill Moody and Lisa Lockhart; steer roper Jess Tierney; and NFR bull rider Ardie Maier , all slated to compete.
2011 PRCA Rookie of the Year Chandler Bownds has entered hoping for a repeat ride on Crystal Springs Peach of Sutton Rodeo, the bull he won the 6th round of the WNFR on with an 89 point ride. Seven PRCA stock contractors will provide their best stock to challenge the contestants.
This rodeo has always been one of the top rodeos in the country no matter who you talk to, says Jim Sutton, the rodeo event creator. We have always tried to have the best people and have always worked off the top of the list of stock contract people and have again this year, maybe better than we've ever had, and have always been able to get good cowboys because of it.
