Alice Meier, 84, Aberdeen and formerly of Eureka, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at ManorCare Health Service of Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Wagner Funeral Home, Central City, Neb., with Pastor Scott Johnson leading the service. Interment follows at Clarks Cemetery, Clarks, Neb.
Alice Dais, daughter of Mary (Nies) and George Dais, was born Aug. 13, 1928, on a farm northeast of Eureka. She attended rural school and later worked for her parents.
Alice married Lawrence Meier on Aug. 31, 1954, at Eureka. They settled in Stanbury, Mo., where they lived two years. They then moved to Eads, Colo., and after eight years relocated to Central City. Lawrence died on Nov. 7, 1965, and in 1967 Alice moved her family to Eureka. In 1970, she took a cook job at the Borscht Kettle. In 1974, after the Borscht Kettle closed, Alice took a cook job at the Lutheran Home (currently Avera Eureka Healthcare Center). She retired from there in 2000. In 2007, she moved to Aberdeen and had lived at ManorCare since July 2012. Alice enjoyed cooking, baking, and growing flowers.
Alice is survived by seven children: Shirley Kennedy, Sharon Young, Roy Meier, Joyce Hendrickson, Cathy Braun, Carla Meier and George Meier; three brothers: Walter, Milbert, and LeRoy Dais; one sister, Mabel Cory; seven grandchildren: William Young, Dustin Hendrickson, Laura Doan, Aaron Braun, Sawyer Braun, Jay Race and Ethan Braun; and one great-granddaughter, Avianna Hendrickson.
She was preceded in death by her father, on March 1, 1998; her mother, on Nov. 26, 1967; her husband; three brothers: Aaron, Marvin, and Calvin; and one infant sister, Darlene.
