Hecla: The funeral Mass for LaVonne Meyers of Hecla will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Hecla. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Hecla Cemetery at a later date.
Ethel LaVonne Bushby, daughter of Leroy and Minnie (Engle) Bushby, was born on Nov. 29, 1920, on a farm west of Hecla. She attended school in Hecla, graduating from Hecla High School. In 1942, she married Berle R. Meyers Sr. They made their home east of Hecla, where LaVonne farmed along side of her husband, Bud, and raised their three children. After Bud's death, LaVonne continued to live on the farm for a short time before moving into Hecla. In August 2009, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Oakes, N.D.
LaVonne was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and was active in church activities. She was also a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed painting, wood refinishing, upholstery and working on needlework and quilting projects. She also loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren whenever she could.
LaVonne passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes. She was 90 years old.
She is survived by three children: Berle L. (Char) Meyers of Hecla, Faye Meyers German of Watertown and Wayne (Sue) Meyers of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by six siblings: Roy Bushby, Myrtis Frohling, and Jean Dinger, all of Hecla, Connie Hayes of Aberdeen, Martha Drazil of Washington and Winnie Ingels of Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Berle Sr.; an infant daughter, Mary Jane; and four brothers: Orville, Clarence, Harlen and Frank.
